Kerry Gamberg
Director/Writer/Producer
Kerry Gamberg is a filmmaker based in St. John’s, Canada, known for her short films, ASKIN’ FOR IT (2018), CRUSH (2018) and FADE FORWARD: The Story of 1949 for CBC national television and CBC Gem (2019). Kerry’s short films have won numerous awards, including the St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival RBC Michelle Jackson Emerging Filmmaker Award, Pinnacle Film Awards for Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Short Film, Best Women’s Film at Virgin Spring Cinefest, and Best of the Fest at Feel The Reel International Film Festival. To date, Kerry’s films have been nominated for a total of 38 awards, 17 of which she’s won.
Kerry is also well known for her production work (CNN’s Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, Viceland’s Abandoned), and as co-owner and founder of BUTTER PICTURES INC., an independent production company and film equipment rental house based in St. John’s, NL.
Kerry has been mentored by multiple award winning female directors, such Sofia Bohdanowicz (Veslemoy’s Song, Maison du Bonheur) on CRUSH, Christian Sparkes (Cast No Shadow, Hammer) on ASKIN’ FOR IT, and Jordan Canning (Suck It Up, Baroness VonSketch) on the set of CBC’s Little Dog tv series. Kerry has also taken masterclasses from Sherry White (Little Dog, Nurses), Aisling Walsh (Maudie, Song For A Raggie Boy), and Gabrielle Brady (Island Of The Hungry Ghosts).
Kerry has attended professional development panels by Ava DuVernay and Oprah Winfrey, Jordan Peele and Norman Lear, Jerry Seinfeld and Ted Sarandos (Netflix), Chris Rock and M. Blair Breard, and Tina Fey- all via the Producer’s Guild of America’s ProducedBy conferences, and is a regular participant on Business Development Missions to Los Angeles and Berlinale/EFM, facilitated by the Newfoundland & Labrador Film Development Corporation.
Kerry is also an alumna of the WIDC (Women In The Director’s Chair) Career Advancement Module, the St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival Interactive Incubator Program, and the NIFCO Picture Start Program. Kerry is an active member of WIFT Atlantic, the Documentary Organization of Canada, and is a sitting board member for NIFCO (Newfoundland Independent Film Co).
In 2017, Kerry founded NFLD Women In Film, a professional collective and support system of women working in the film and television industry in Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada.
Mike Hickey
Director/Writer/Producer
A bestselling author & award-winning filmmaker with a love for all things spooky, Grand Falls-Windsor native Mike created FRIGHT HYPE for Crypt TV in 2015 and has hosted the popular web series since along with press and event coverage for major films like HALLOWEEN (2018) and IT (2017).
Recently, he wrote and directed the short film THAT HALLOWEEN (2021) which premiered Halloween night 2021 on SuperChannel through the Blood In The Snow Film Festival and collected laurels and awards on the festival circuit before being licensed for ALL HALLOWS EVE 3. He’s also produced several shorts including the Telefilm Picture Start films MATCHSTICK (2017) and FALSE LIGHT (2018), which was selected for Not Short on Talent at Cannes.
Through Engen Books Mike helmed TERROR NOVA, an anthology of Newfoundland inspired horror stories, which was released to great acclaim in 2020. The series continued with TERROR NOVA WRITERS RETREAT in early 2022. THAT HALLOWEEN, a novella inspired by his own short released in October 2022. The third book in the Terror Nova series LURKING IN DARKNESS is due this year.
Mike currently lives in St John’s, Newfoundland with his wife, Maria, and their dog, Samhain (who responds to “Sam” and doesn’t respond to requests to stop pooping in the kitchen.)
